The Paris Olympics are coming up on the 26th and running through August 11th. Everyone in New York City is looking for a place to watch the opening ceremony and olympic events. I’ve got you covered with the best places to watch the live events. The Olympic debut is always really exciting and it’s more fun to watch the medal events out somewhere with friends where you can enjoy great drinks and bites. It’s important to acknowledge these places will all be crowded, so plan accordingly whether that means going early and grabbing a reservation. The summer Olympic Games are here and we are rooting for team USA! Sports fans, this one is for you!
Firstly, if you live in NYC, you know that Rocco’s is one of the top places to watch games. One step up from any sports game is watching the Olympics! While they have group bookings available if you are having a get together, you will want to get there early whether you are coming with a group or a few people without a booking. It gets pretty packed in there because the drinks are great and the tv’s are airing the best sports games.
Another popular spot, thns ine Village Tavern is a bar in the West Village. The drinks are great in an old school type of way and they have great seating for the tv’s. If you’re not a beer person, they have specialty cocktails and the atmosphere is perfect for watching the Olympics.
This spot is a gay sports bar located in Hell’s Kitchen. They have a giant roof deck and plenty of space to watch their televisions. This spot has had Olympics watch parties in the past and this time won’t be any different.
This bar has three locations in NYC. The Financial District, Greenwich Village and Murray Hill. It’s known for being a great spot to watch sports and have tons of tv’s so every seat is a good one. If you’re looking to snack they have great bites and of course, wings.
The Moxy in the East Village has a rooftop that is what dreams are made of. We love the views of the city there but they have been known to have Olympics watch parties. Frozen drinks to cool down and as many beers as you would like, this all seasons rooftop is a top spot on the list.
Sharing a Long Island City spot, this beer hall is a popular destination for sports viewing. They have two floors one being outdoor and a bunch of tv’s so every person will have a great spot to view the Olympics. The bites are delicious and they do take reservations, which I recommend if possible otherwise make sure to get there early because it does fill up!
Located at The Standard Hotel, The Standard Biergarten is one of our favorite places to go in the city. They always have things to watch on the tv’s but on Thursday July 25th starting at 6pm, they will have their outdoor beer garden holding its very own Bierlympics Games, where teams of four can sign up to compete in a series of games including Beer Pong, Flip Cup, Stein-Holding and more! Prizes for the winning teams include BG tickets and ski-shots.
The Biergarten is also offering a special cocktail menu, inspired by the multinationalism of the games. Stamps corresponding with each countries cocktail can be collected in bespoke BG passports over the two weeks. If all five stamps are collected, guests can use their completed passport to redeem 25% off their next visit to The Biergarten. These include: the US – Mint Julep – Bourbon, Mint, Demerara, Germany – Radler – Underberg, Pilsner, Grapefruit Cordial, Lemon, France – Hugo Spritz – Elderflower, Suze, Sparkling Wine, Japan – Lychee Martini – Vodka, Sake, Lychee, Lime and Mexico – Tepache Paloma – Tequila, Watermelon-Jalapeño Tepache, Agave, Lime.
If you’re near Midtown East, this is the place to be! Numerous tv’s, really great food and drinks that are fantastic, this tavern is one of our very favorites. They are always airing the best games and are known for their American craft beer.
Coming in with a Kips Bay location, Turnmill is a prime location. The atmosphere is great there and they have so many tv’s. I can’t express enough how everyone will be able to have a great view of the Olympics here. They have loads of beer options and are ready to book your watch party group so be sure to do so before trying to get a spot once it’s crowded!
Yes, I’m including a speakeasy in this list! They screen a bunch of sports events in this upscale drink spot and we love the food they have there. It’s a fun option if you’re looking to steer clear of a beer hall or packed sports bar.
Finally, Clinton Hall is a prime location for the Olympics. It’s great for groups of friends and they have several locations including the Financial District and two in Midtown on 36th and 51st streets. They are known for their burgers and beer and have games on the tables as well.
