As you know, the Met Gala isn’t a night, it is a week-long affair here, and we are closing on the notable menswear looks from Monday night.
Usher wore an Alexander McQueen by Seán McGirr custom look inspired by the Fall 2024 collection.
The look had all the drama you want from a Met Gala outing from the cape, embellishment, and in this case, the on-theme rose appliques.
If I was to critique one thing about this look, it would be, select leather fedora or the cape rather than both.
I personally preferred seeing the detailing on the suit, but I was intrigued by the reveal when the cape was removed.
A Jacob & Co. Ruby Billionaire III timepiece completed his The Phantom of the Opera look.
Styled by Jan-Michael Quammie.
Considering I am always going on about Adrien Brody wearing different versions of the same single-breasted suit, I do admire his efforts both in the hair and tailoring department as the actor stepped onto the red carpet in a double-breasted Maison Margiela tuxedo styled with leather Tabi lace-ups.
Elsa Jin, who is an incredibly talented jewelry designer – who we usually see during the Cannes Film Festival – created this stunning LIFE 2020 brooch.
American stand-up comedian Alex Edelman wore a floral embroidered custom S.S.Daley suit.
Styled by Rob Zangardi.
When it comes to Alex Sharp’s Balmain Fall 2024 look, the question is, should he have worn the runway tie?
The tie for me would have taken this look into Moschino territory, when it is already so close to the border.
The runway is giving face, while Alex’s look is more subjective.
David Yurman jewels completed his look.
Styled by Anna Trevelyan.
Actor Ben Platt and his fiancée, Noah Galvin, were dressed in suits from the AMIRI Spring 2024 collection.
And here is a classic example why black isn’t always my favourite red carpet colour.
Ben’s look was styled with a crystal mesh tank and flower detail, but they are barely seen, yet all the intricate details on Noah’s look are clear.
The couple styled their suits with Christian Louboutin shoes. Ben wore the black leather Capitano Orlato dress shoes, while Noah wore white satin Dandelion loafers.
Classic diamond drop earrings by YESSAYAN completed Ben’s look.
Styled by Jared Ellner.
I’m not sure how I missed Ben Simmons for the Thom Browne roundup, as he wore the most archetypal Thom Browne look of them all from the tweed suit to the clock on the front briefcase.
Styled by Wesmore Perriott.
Brooklyn Beckham may not have been on theme, but I am enamoured by the relaxed tailoring of his Dior Men’s Collection white suit, while ignoring the shoes.
A Piaget Polo 79 timepiece completed his look.
Styled by Jason Bolden.
Charlie Hunnam opted for shades of blue in his Brioni tuxedo styled with Christian Louboutin Dandelion loafers.
The highlight was a Neil Lane art deco brooch, which was considered a Sleeping Beauty.
Styled by Samantha McMillen.
Damiano David, frontman for the Italian rock band Måneskin, made his Met Gala debut wearing a Diesel custom look.
I know that sheer looks don’t impress you much, but I really like how we get the silhouette of a classic tuxedo, with the disintegrating fabric revealing his tattoos which added an artful twist to the rockers look.
I don’t know what I’m more enamoured by when it comes to Donald Glover’s Saint Laurent suit.
The fluidity of the fabric or the mix of colours against his skin.
A selection of Cartier jewels including a Panthère brooch completed his look.
Styled by Ilaria Urbinati.
Am I the only one who is reminded of the wedding suit scene in ‘Dumb and Dumber’ when seeing Ed Sheeran in this blue Stella McCartney suit?
The Norwegian billionaire Gustav Magnar Witzoe came in like a Greek god wearing a custom Atelier Versace toga-like cape and bejeweled bodysuit.
A Dior ‘Lily Of The Valley’ brooch ensured that Jack Harlow’s Dior Men’s Collection look was on theme.
Jeremy Pope always sets himself apart, as displayed a look from the emerging genderless brand Tanner Fletcher, which included a Hollywood Regency silk robe with marabou feathers and a pinstripe suit with garter detailing.
The actor is yet to share what the inspiration was, but I would be really interested to learn.
Christian Louboutin Vatik shoes completed his look.
Styled by Ugo Mozie.
Seeing Jeremy Strong wearing this Loro Piana floral applique suit styled with a Richard Mille timepiece, is the most Kendall Roy look he could have worn to the Met.
Whenever I see Jon Batiste I hear melodic music.
I’m forever charmed by his style and this custom dunhill look is no exception as his look fuses dunhill’s exquisite tailoring excellence, with historic textile craft and vivid floral pattern which nods to the curation of 250 rare items from the Costume Institute’s permanent collection, alongside the nature-inspired dress code, ‘The Garden of Time.’
Cartier jewels including a stunning 1928 Cartier Collection brooch in platinum, diamonds completed his look.
Styled by Wayman Bannerman and Micah McDonald.
Kieran Culkin didn’t follow the classic tux crowd, as he wore a paint splattered suit by KidSuper, but his wife, Jazz Charton wore a look closer to the theme with her floral dress.
It is easy to be enamoured by the silhouette of Leon Bridges custom Willy Chavarria suit, but in this case, it was the finer details that spoke the loudest.
His suit was accented with Bluebonnet brooches which is significant as the bluebonnet is a state flower of Texas, which represents his home state.
Styled by Gabriela Tena.
As great as Lil Nas X looked in this Luar ensemble, it felt very tame by his standards.
Like Rihanna and Blake Lively, he has set such a high ceiling at the Met, that anything even one percent below goes under the radar.
David Yurman jewels completed his look.
Morgan Spector was part of a trio of gents who wore floral accented custom looks from Willy Chavarria.
I’m glad the poppies are in a different shade, so they stand out.
David Yurman jewels completed his look.
Styled by Bailey Moon.
Puerto Rican musician Rauw Alejandro wore a custom Ludovic de Saint Sernin suit which featured an icy Swarovski embellished top.
The look was styled with a Jacob & Co. Ashoka Boutique watch and thankfully, white shoes.
Considering how much I love Reece Feldman’s Thom Browne floral embroidered kilt suit, I’m going to give the doggy bag a pass.
So Christian Cowan was the person to tame Sam Smith’s style, as the British singer has worn some crazy get ups in the past.
The couple looked very sophisticated in their custom Christian Cowan tailored suits which mixed old world tailoring with contemporary silhouettes, with Sam’s suit accented with a chiffon skirt; leaning the look towards a gender-neutral position.
A fun fact about their looks, are the roses, which are real red roses that were dipped into solid sterling silver and 24 carat gold, and the silk cravats match their eye colours.
AMI Paris are known for their summery hues, but Sebastian Stan flipped the script in rebellious look styled with Cartier jewels which was giving Matrix 2024.
Styled by Michael Fisher.
Tom Ford didn’t wear Tom Ford, as the designer, who is retired from the eponymous brand he co-founded almost 20 years ago, opted to wear a stunning red velvet Saint Laurent jacket.
I bet the shades are Tom Ford though.
From the pleats, the colour and the length of those trousers, you can tell that Wisdom Kaye was wearing Robert Wun, which the designer labelled, The Burnt Red Rose.
Styled by Richmond Okeke.
