Just when I thought Sophie Thatcher was set to claim her throne as the next neo-goth queen, she threw us a sartorial curveball at the Companion Los Angeles premiere on Monday.
The actress graced the red carpet in a custom Dolce & Gabbana strapless gown featuring a blush pink exposed-boning corset and an oxblood draped skirt. It’s a look that flirts with drama but doesn’t fully commit to the darker aesthetic I’d been hoping for.
Now, let’s address the elephant in the room: the blush corset. For some, shades so close to the skin tone can be tricky, and I can already hear the collective sighs wishing the corset had been in another colour. Personally, I think the corset adds an ethereal softness, but the balance feels a bit off—and I’m pointing my finger at the tone of her blonde hair.
That said, there’s still a lot to love here. The oxblood skirt is dripping with drama, perfectly offsetting the delicate corset. And let’s not forget her KALLATI jewelry, which added just the right amount of sparkle to keep the look from veering too minimalist.
While it’s not quite the gothic dream I’d envisioned for Sophie, there is a charm to it. Consider this a plot twist in her fashion narrative, and I’m here for the suspense.
