The 2025 NAACP Image Awards brought the mix of bold choices, daring silhouettes, and the occasional questionable tailoring. Here’s a roundup of the night’s most notable looks.
Double Duty, Double Impact
If there was an award for Most Dedicated Fashion Enthusiast, Danielle Deadwyler would win. She juggled two events in one night, attending both the Spirit Awards and the NAACP Image Awards, and she did it all in Carolina Herrera. Some might argue that her white and black polka dot gathered mermaid gown, complete with a floral detail, would have been better suited for Santa Monica’s beachfront setting, but I think this just proves that she can wear anything, anywhere, and still look flawless.

The Dress Wore Her
Ayo Edebiri stepped out in a Rabanne-inspired mesh halter dress, but her body language suggested she wasn’t entirely sold on the look—and, honestly, neither am I. There’s a fine line between experimental and hesitant, and this one might have landed in the latter category.

Sculptural Drama
Never one to be anything less than a showstopper, Chloe Bailey brought drama in a Gaurav Gupta gown styled with Sterling Forever jewels. With its sculptural detailing, this look had all the hallmarks of a signature Gaurav Gupta design—bold, futuristic, and undeniably eye-catching.

Shimmer and Shine
Halle Bailey wore a Sabina Bilenko corseted white dress featuring a sparkling silver bodice providing just the right amount of shimmer.

Purple Power
Janelle James delivered tailored perfection in a Pamella Roland Fall 2023 purple crepe suit with flared sleeves. The rich colour, the clean lines—everything about this was effortlessly chic.

A Little Too Close for Comfort
Jurnee Smollett wore a Rhea Costa strapless design that most definitely incorporated a corset—because, well, her cups were practically spilling over.

The Tailoring Mishap
Honestly, I’m shocked by Kamala Harris’ LaQuan Smith suit. LaQuan Smith usually delivers impeccable structure, but this missed the mark. It’s comical, it’s confusing, and it’s proof that even the best designers can’t save a suit from bad proportions.

Laverne Cox 🖤 Mugler
Laverne Cox and Mugler should be a match made in fashion heaven, but something about this look needed a little tweaking. The elements were there, but the execution needed a reshuffle.
