Our NYC Guide to March


As we near the beginning of spring, New York City is already showing signs of an early transition. After a fun winter with actual snow for the first time in awhile, we’re ready to embrace the warmer days. Our family is excited dive into everything the city has to offer this month. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a longtime New Yorker, there are always exciting things to explore in this ever changing city. If you’re planning to visit, here are a few classic recommendations: catch a Broadway show, experience the energy of Times Square, enjoy stunning views from one of the city’s iconic observation decks, or take a scenic walking tour. Of course, a visit to the Statue of Liberty is a must, and no trip is complete without checking out the views from Rockefeller Center. Living in New York City is a privilege, there’s always something new to see, no matter the season. As we shift into spring, it’s the perfect time to rediscover some of my favorite spots and uncover new hidden gems. So, here are my top picks for NYC events and activities to enjoy this month.

Celebrate Women’s History Month

It’s Women’s History Month and I want to start out by saying I am so proud to be on this earth as the same time as all of you brilliant women! Thank you for constantly inspiring me and being amazing role models for the future generations. May our daughters continue on our legacy! There are tons of things going on this month in the city for Women’s History month, it’s really the perfect place to be. Spending time with loved ones and friends to celebrate womanhood is always a good time and one of the best things about being a woman is celebrating how much we’ve accomplished. There are tons of special events going on in the city, but it’s a great time of year to make your own events with friends, as well. We’ll be celebrating through the end of March with New Yorkers but every day is Women’s History Month to us. While, we still have ways to go, it’s nice to celebrate where we are now. Timeout has all the happenings for the month and they are all worth checking out for a wonderful experience!

St. Patrick’s Day is this month and what better city to be in than NYC?! There are tons of pubs that have specials going on all weekend long- I’ve actually made a roundup of some of the best ones here! This annual event is something that is a great reason to step out of the house and enjoy some beers with great friends. They also have the Parade taking place on the 17th from 11AM-4:30PM. It will begin on 5th Avenue and 44th Street and they march all the way up to 79th Street. Check out our favorite bars and St. Paddy’s day recipes to celebrate the holiday!

This has got to be one of the coolest events this month! Head over to the Metropolitan Pavilion on the 19th through the 23rd to enjoy art pieces ranging from $100-$12,000. If you recently moved, this is also a great opportunity to find some amazing pieces for your space. If it’s your first time looking at art, this is a great place to check out! Ticket prices are out and readily available!

The NBA is back and it’s time for some games! Our team plays at Madison Square Garden and it’s always a fun time. There’s just something about taking the whole family to a game, eating stadium food and enjoying watching them play in such a lively arena. Kind of like a core memory in a childhood. It’s a great family activity to do and we’re looking forward to grabbing tickets this season! The ultimate guide to the city has to include basketball games, especially in late March for March Madness. It’s one of the best places to go with friends and my kids always have the best time watching the games.

The High Line has some of the best views of the city, especially with the weather getting to be warmer. It’s more than just a place to walk though! Did you know that had a ton of stuff going on over there like restaurants and a hotel?! Make a whole afternoon out of it! Start at the Biergarten, the Standard Grill for food and stay at the Standard Hotel! There’s so much more to do in the neighborhood, too.

We are nearing the end of of ice skating season! My kids love to try out all the rinks each year and we’ll start with Manhattan West’s! It’s a pretty decent sized rink surrounded by shopping, a hotel and food! So you can make a staycation out of it! What’s even more fun, is that they always have events going on that feature great things like free skating, some hot chocolate and more! Now is one of the last times to do this before the rink closes for the spring! Take advantage of the end of the winter with a last skate.

The Orchid Show is something we look forward to each year! It’s such a unique event at a great place! The Botanical Gardens are so serene and a spot the whole family can enjoy. The show is focused on floral in fashion this year. If you’re looking for an artsy activity to do this month, you have to check it out! It will be taking place until April 22nd, but tickets will fly! We look forward to this every year.

The Macy’s Flower show is back and I couldn’t be more excited! This is an event I look forward to every year because it’s always so stunning and inspirational. The winter months can feel long and a little dreary, so a great way to cheer up is to look at flowers and signs of spring. Located in Herald Square, this display is back and one of the more fun things to look forward to this month! It’s also fewer tourists here because it’s more of a local thing, so if you want to do what the locals are doing. Their sit will have an update on timing but it typically lasts around 2 weeks so you will want to run over there once it’s announced.

Pink might as well be my middle name because I love it that much! The Pink Pier is here at the Watermark and it’s always a great time. There are delicious cocktails and tasty bites and they have the pink lit igloos for the cold weather. So you can go and know you won’t freeze this winter as we enter the spring. NYC weather is getting warmer and this is a good reason to get outside and try some great cocktails. And who doesn’t love a pink atmosphere?!

Mercer labs is an experimental exhibition that has 15 difference interactive experiences including unique listening encounters and immersive exhibits that perfectly blend technology with the world of art. Roy Nachum created this vision and he is most known for human perception and using his artistic abilities to bend them. The whole thing almost felt like an out of body experience, in the best way, as if you’re looking at the world mindlessly! Located at 21 dey street, there are several subway lines nearby so it’s easy to get to. We’re spoiled and live downtown near it so we go often but it’s a great place to go and then spend the day in lower Manhattan.

Here is one activity we are excited to check out! It’s one of popular attractions at Freedom Plaza. This immersive light exhibit is so tranquil and full of winding paths. We like to end a busy day here because it’s so calming and cool to see. They are closed Thursdays-Saturdays.

This is a great spring break activity! Last year, the kids and I headed out to New Jersey to have the ultimate water park and amusement park experience all in one! They have a full Nickelodeon and DreamWorks portion with characters and themed rides and fun. With food and shopping all nearby, this is the ultimate day to spend out with family if you’re near NYC for spring break.

We love to see the cherry blossoms at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. They are just now beginning to bloom and their site has all updated information on when they will be ready to witness, so be sure to check it out to stay up to date! As soon as we see it get updated, we run over!
