2025 Oscars: Menswear Edition

Menswear on the Oscars red carpet often sticks to the tried and true, but this year, some stars delivered fresh takes on classic tailoring. From dazzling brooches to questionable fits, let’s break down the standout looks of the night.

A Midnight Blue Winner

Adrien Brody brought back that brooch, and honestly, we should all be grateful. The piece, designed by contemporary jewelry artist Elsa Jin, was a striking addition to his Giorgio Armani Made to Measure midnight blue tuxedo. Usually, he saves this detail for Cannes, but why not bring a little European flair to the Oscars? A worthy winner in all regards.

The Man Who Wore Brown Before It Was Cool

If you’ve been following red carpets long enough, you know Andrew Garfield was wearing brown suits before everyone jumped on the trend. This caramel-hued custom Gucci look was already a winner, but the satin trim on the shawl collar and silk shirt took it to another level. Add a Jaeger-LeCoultre timepiece and a David Yurman necklace with a brown topaz gemstone, and the whole thing was smooth—like espresso.

A Cream Dream (If We Ignore the Shoes)

I’m choosing to pretend I didn’t see the black shoes because I’m obsessed with Calum Harper’s Saint Laurent cream suit. The tan tie was a perfect touch, and the entire colour scheme worked beautifully against his skin tone and red hair. This was understated, yet contemporary elegance done right.

Keeping It Classic

Cillian Murphy, a returning winner, kept things simple and sophisticated in a classic Saint Laurent tux. No risks, but no missteps either.

A Royal Touch

Young Royals star Edvin Ryding fully leaned into his princely aesthetic with a Xander Zhou blazer featuring a sash accent from Sean Suen, paired with Tiger of Sweden trousers. The best part? All these labels are Swedish, a perfect nod to his roots. Cartier jewels completed the regal look.

Surprisingly Understated

Jeremy Pope and understated don’t usually belong in the same sentence, but here we are. His black satin ensemble was sleek and refined.

The Brown Standard

Jeremy Strong and Loro Piana remain one of the strongest partnerships in menswear. The quality of the fabric, the unique tie detail, and that rich shade of brown ensured he stood out without trying too hard. A Richard Mille timepiece was the perfect final touch.

Yet Another Miss

Joe Alwyn’s red carpet looks haven’t been hitting lately, and unfortunately, this JW Anderson suit was no exception. The navy lapels clashed with the black tuxedo, the tailoring wasn’t sharp enough, and the trousers were too long (which his pose did nothing to hide). The Bvlgari brooch and watch were the only redeeming elements here.

Regency Meets Sequins

It seems Celine is no longer keeping sequins exclusive to womenswear. Joe Locke’s Regency-inspired tailcoat look featured a gold sequined vest, which was a bold choice. I would’ve been fully on board if the trousers had been black instead of grey. An IWC timepiece was a solid addition.

Vintage-Inspired Perfection

Kit Connor’s Giuliva Heritage wide-lapel suit was a masterclass in classic menswear. Styled with a Boucheron brooch and a TAG Heuer timepiece, this was sharp, polished, and timelessly elegant.

Tailoring Perfection

Kit Price brought Dolce & Gabbana’s signature tailoring elegance to the red carpet in this double-breasted Sicilia-fit flared tuxedo. That jacket is a work of art—structured yet fluid. A masterclass in how to wear a classic with a twist.

Breaking the Couture Barrier

Mark Eydelshteyn decided to join the ladies who wore looks from the Balenciaga Fall 2023 Haute Couture collection, opting for an ivory shirt and tie ensemble. There’s something delightfully unexpected about seeing a man embrace couture in a way that still feels sharp and refined.

A Sheer Love Affair

Reece Feldman and Saint Laurent are still very much in sync, and so is his love for sheer shirts and flared suits. This is the kind of effortless, rockstar-meets-red-carpet aesthetic that works perfectly for him. Bonus points for the diamond brooch fastened at the neck of his shirt.

The Flares Take Over

Flares were clearly trending on this red carpet, and Robert Downey Jr. was all in with a custom Gucci tuxedo. He added even more personality with a Jean Schlumberger for Tiffany & Co. Archives brooch, an Elsa Peretti® Split ring, a Tiffany Lock ring, and an OMEGA timepiece. It was classic RDJ—bold but refined.

Red Hot Plus One

Susan Downey perfectly complemented her husband in a Gucci red sequin embroidered gown. Because why not bring the drama as a duo?

K-Pop Royalty Makes a Statement

Rowoon might not be a household name at this event, but the K-Pop star commanded attention in an AMIRI Spring 2025 suit. His relaxed spin on the look gave it a cool, effortless vibe. The sparkling embellished jacket didn’t necessarily need a Jean Schlumberger by Tiffany Apollo brooch, but somehow, it worked. More is more, after all.

Swarovski, But Make It Subtle

Speaking of sparkle, Samuel L. Jackson’s Giorgio Armani tuxedo featured a Swarovski crystal-trimmed jacket. It wasn’t over-the-top, but just enough to catch the light. A subtle flex, and we love to see it.

So, who stands out for you here?
