The Oscars couldn’t resist leaning all the way into Wicked, possibly because they knew its stars wouldn’t be up on-stage for much else — well, until next year, when I assume Cynthia Erivo will win for the cumulative work of both movies, unless Meryl Streep comes along and decides she’d like another one (the Academy, like Martin Short, cannot resist her allure). Accordingly, we got two songs from The Wiz, one from Wicked, and of course, the one that started it all: “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” a forever classic that Ariana did justice — all while dressed as arguably the film’s most famous prop.
