Fugs & Pieces: June 28, 2024

This time next week, it will be JULY, if you can believe it. The Independence Day holiday is Thursday, July 4, so we will likely take July 4 and 5 as our weekend and then be back publishing regularly on Monday, July 8.

Over on Drinks With Broads, we wrapped out our Bridgerton recaps, discussed the underwhelming Brats and created our own imaginary strip malls, and visited the American Visionary Art Museum’s gift shop (virtually) while also imagining who our ’90s or aughts Brat Pack equivalents would be.

And on GFY, if you missed it, we celebrated the beards of the Stanley Cup champs, the Florida Panthers, and ogled Royal Ascot’s best hats. Well, in addition to a bunch of fashion shows and front rows. ‘Tis the damn season, after all.

I’m sure you’re EXTREMELY relieved to know that People promises Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake “have moved on” from his DWI arrest.

In keeping with hockey news, as a tribute to sports’ greatest trophy, I dug up an older story on the weirdest things anyone’s ever done with the Stanley Cup — or, more accurately sometimes, to it. This year, Matthew Tkachuk has already taken in into the ocean, and former goalie and adviser to the Panthers Roberto Luongo just ate pasta out of it. [MSN]

If it feels like you’re hearing Chappell Roan’s name everywhere, it’s because you are. Billboard did a piece breaking down the metrics of her meteoric rise. The graph is fun: It looks like things really took off when she toured briefly with Olivia Rodrigo. [Billboard]

Related: Lainey talks here about how she feels like “sources” are trying really hard to boost JT back up and even exonerate him a little, and I agree with her that it’s not working because his keg of goodwill has run very, very dry. I think the public is SO over him and over privilege in general, and you cannot ask me to feel sorry for someone who drove drunk just because he might be nicer at bars than Leonardo DiCaprio. [LaineyGossip]

In And Just Like That… casting news, we’ve seen Rosie O’Donnell and Jenifer Lewis on set, and now the show announced it’s bumped up Dolly Wells (Miranda’s colleague; they seemed to maybe go on a date at the end of the season) to series regular, along with Anthony’s hot young boyfriend. For guest arcs, they added Mehcad Brooks (True Blood), Jonathan Cake (total Hey It’s That Guy, and he’s married to Julianne Nicholson), and Logan Marshall-Green, who I know as Ryan’s terrible brother from The O.C. (I also remember when this happened.) Finally, yes, John Corbett was listed amongst cast members who are returning. Sigh. [EW.com]

Cats has been reimagined by two directors in New York as “an event on the queer, largely Black and Latinx ballroom circuit,” and it sounds PERFECT?!? [The New Yorker]

Tom Hanks and Robin Wright are reuniting for a movie by Robert Zemeckis that seems to be going all Polar Express on their faces so that they can play themselves through many phases of their lives. Although I was not expecting the trailer to include… prehistoric times?!? What IS this movie? All I know is, if it were Robert Rodriguez, to avoid aging makeup, he’d have started shooting it before he was born and he’d finish it from a cryogenic chamber and it’d come out in 2145 to great acclaim. Alex Trebek is getting a Forever Stamp! But how long until he actually gets a Jeopardy! category of his own? [Mental Floss]

CNN ran a story yesterday about a bar in Missouri that’s banning women under 30 and men under 35, as part of an effort to avoid newly legal idiots who don’t know how to drink responsibly. You do you, business owners, but real talk: I know plenty of newly legal people who drink way more responsibly than thirty- and forty-somethings, and I wonder if this is also a couched attempt to slap everything with higher prices because the desired clientele is “young professionals.” [CNN.com]

Max is dropping a Faye Dunaway documentary on Jule 13 called, yep, Faye:

She’s participating, as you can tell from the trailer, which always makes me wonder if I’m being sold something — but Deadline seemed to think it’s fairly forthright, and also highly entertaining.
