Our editorial calendar at Drinks With Broads was a bit wacky this week, due to the combo of the VMAs on Wednesday, and the upcoming Emmys on Sunday. We had a live chat during the VMAs, and then wrapped up the highlights for those of you who didn’t watch — which was most of you! Finally, a reminder that this community is raising money for state legislature races in swing states with the help of The States Project! Our fundraising page is here; originally, we didn’t set a goal, but The States Projects peeps explained that it’s better to have something to work toward. We’re more than halfway there! I’m sure we can smash that goal. As The States Project explains, among other things:
Defending the power we’ve built in state legislatures is as important to our representative democracy as the presidency — and could well determine who goes to the White House. State lawmakers can protect free and fair elections from rightwing interference. By refusing to comply with rightwing power grabs, and upholding the will of voters in our elections, pro-democracy majorities in battleground states — Pennsylvania, Arizona, Wisconsin, Nevada, and New Hampshire — could prevent the presidency from being stolen and protect our future.
Their website also gets really granular about their goals for each specific swing state — here, for example, is Wisconsin’s page. We didn’t choose one specific state to focus on, so our money will be spread between Arizona, Michigan, Nevada, Wisconsin, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania. Let’s go get ‘em!
Additionally, this is a good time to register to vote, if you’ve never done that before, or to check and make sure that your info is up to date. Election day will be here before you know it.
