Fugs & Pieces, October 18, 2024

Happy Friday! I cannot believe we’re heading toward the end of October already. Hope things are going well for you and yours.

We had a good time at Drinks With Broads this week! First, we dive into one of my old cookbooks that just might have a menu for a key party….brunch??? Plus Mariah is re-releasing “All I Want for Christmas Is You” and Billie Eilish looks great on Vogue! Yesterday, we talked about the new Doritos restaurant!!! Also complain about Grey’s Anatomy and discuss Nobody Wants This. AND there’s a fresh new recap of Only Murders in the Building.

And here at GFY, I picked out a bunch of SEASONAL GOURDS you might want to buy, and we all talked about our favorite autumn recipes.

The news about Liam Payne is terribly said. This was a lovely remembrance of him at Rolling Stone.

I always enjoy it when Texas Monthly resurfaces something from the archives, like this piece from 2001: “Looking to have somebody murdered? You might want to call Gary Johnson, the number one hired killer in Houston. Then again, you might not—he works for the cops.” (Skip Hollandsworth is such a good writer.) (This is also the article that the Glen Powell movie Hit Man was based on.)

I clicked on this headline so quickly: “Works by Pissarro, Renoir, and Avercamp Vanished. Here’s How an Amateur Art Sleuth Cracked the Case.” I love art crime stories! [Vanity Fair]

Finally, great news! Remember how we’ve been raising money with The States Project to help support Democratic state legislature races? Thanks to your incredible generosity — and some matching funds from TSP itself! — we crushed our $20,000 goal. THANK YOU for chipping in to help elect folks down the ballot! The last day to donate to this project is October 29, if you’re someone who wants to/is able to spend her election anxiety, but no matter what, we appreciate you.
