If it hadn’t already, the ASICS GEL-NYC made its stamp as a lifestyle shoe this summer. It was a frequent sight on city streets as the Japanese brand unleashed a bevy of new looks for the AWAKE NYC-assisted silhouette. But how will the model, a clear product of the mesh runner movement, take on winter? The material question remains, but a snowy arrangement, clad in pure white and “Oyster Grey,” answers it aesthetically.

We begin with a familiar touch, thin channels of chrome running throughout the base layer and linking the shoe back to its Y2K inspirations. However, the brightened profile of the shoe otherwise is anything but typical; barring a “Linen” pair that emerged in Q2, this is the closest the GEL-NYC has gotten to “Triple White.” While seemingly taking cues from the snow-coated streets of Gotham that are just around the corner, the palette is fit for rotations year-round. Even if you’re unwilling to put in some elbow grease to keep this pair crispy throughout the coldest months, it’s never too early to get a headstart on next year’s Spring/Summer.
Official images arriving mean that the ASICS GEL-NYC “Oyster Grey” should hit ASICS.com soon. Check out the product images just ahead, and if these have really caught your eye, keep an eye on our Sneaker Release Dates page.
