Lashana Lynch used this red carpet premiere for The Jackal to announce she’s expecting her first child, which is very exciting for her. She told Vogue she felt comfortable and in-control in this, as opposed to in a costume, which is great and all — but she confused me a little when she said, of this Ottolinger frock, “I wanted to keep the look really simple, poignant and effective.” I can think of a lot of adjectives for this, very few of them positive; I doubt I’d have chosen “poignant,” and “simple” for sure is not one of them. The fabric on the top looks like what happens when your TV tries to stretch a 4:3 ratio movie into letterbox size (to be clear, that has nothing to do with her and everything to do with how the fabric was printed). I am so glad she was happy and comfortable, but for now I am going to pack my retinas and my forehead furrow, and go.
