Penelope Cruz brought a metallic aesthetic to the 14th annual WSJ. Innovator Awards, which took place on Oct. 29 at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. The actress looked fierce in a silver dress from Dolce & Gabbana, which was paired with shiny platform sandals.
Cruz made a statement in a fitted floor-length gown which clung to her figure and fell into a skirt with a long slit beginning at the top of the left thigh. The dress featured a deep scoop neck and elegantly bunched fabric around the neckline. Covered in rows and rows of small crystals, the dress had a chainmail-like quality which offered Cruz a glamorous edge. Accenting the gown, she carried a sparkling clutch in a chrome hue which picked up a lighter patch of silver on her dress.
Cruz continued the silver metallic theme with a memorable pair of platform sandals. The shoes were enclosed in the back but open along the sides, as a medium-width strap stretched across the toe region and a thinner one buckled around the ankle.
A modest platform boosted the shoe in front while a soaring stiletto heel had a prominent presence in back. The shoe was Dolce & Gabbana’s Mirrored-Effect Calfskin Platform Sandals in the Keira style, which retail for $1,345.
Another guest at the event was Cruz’s close friend Salma Hayek, who wore black platform sandals with a strapless red dress; Cruz and Linda Evangelista presented Hayek with the Entertainment and Altruism award. Additional attendees included A’ja Wilson — the WNBA received the Sports award, among other honorees.
Cruz, who is a Chanel ambassador, often wears shoes from the French brand, ranging from cap-toe pumps to platform sandals. See more of the actress’ style below.
