Cynthia Erivo was perfectly in sync with her ‘Wicked’ co-star Ariana Grande at the London premiere, held at The Royal Festival Hall this evening. Like Ariana’s nod to Glinda’s yellow gown, Cynthia’s Schiaparelli Fall 2024 Haute Couture look referenced the ‘One Short Day in the Emerald City’ scene, delivering drama, fantasy, and a touch of haute couture magic.
I’ve been saying (and praying) that Cynthia was saving her best look for this moment, and this butterfly-volumed black velvet sleeveless dress delivered in every way imaginable. The tonal tulle explosion enveloping the light pink rhinestone conical-shaped lining was pure artistry—exactly what I hoped to see from her on this red carpet.
I must take a moment for the matching embroidered tights, which looked almost bionic under the lights. If I were to nitpick—and you know I will—if this were a sci-fi movie, I would have loved for the embroidery to extend to the shoes as well. It would have elevated the futuristic fantasy even further.
With her collaboration with OPI, the manicured nails accenting her black velvet gloves were a thoughtful detail. And let’s not overlook the headpiece. This press tour has opened Cynthia up to an array of headpieces that add an unexpected layer to her looks.
This look was worth the wait. From the volume to the intricate details to the nod to ‘Wicked’s’ Emerald City, it feels like everything we’ve been waiting for.
Do you agree, or were your expectations set even higher? For me, this was Cynthia’s defining moment on the ‘Wicked’ tour so far.
De Beers jewels completed her look.
