Ariana Grande’s Glinda-Inspired Press Tour: A Pink-Tinted Journey

When Ariana Grande posted a photo from Sky Studios Elstree in February 2024, we had our first clue: pink was going to dominate her Wicked press tour.

From that Balenciaga Haute Couture dress (a pink version of Nicole Kidman’s blue stunner) to her Super Bowl LVII debut in sparkling Louis Vuitton football jerseys, Ariana has embraced Glinda’s signature hue in all its glory.

Not every look was a home run. Her Giambattista Valli Haute Couture gown at the Oscars split opinion, though it felt on-brand to me. Then came a rare mini moment with a sweet Oscar de la Renta dress at CinemaCon, offering a fresh contrast to her usual ball gowns.

The turning point? That custom Thom Browne pink dress inspired by Norman Parkinson’s 1955 “Audrey Hepburn with Flowers II.” It was her most compelling pre-tour look, an homage to her idol Audrey Hepburn that truly set the tone.

Ariana’s Wicked press tour officially kicked off with a stunning Atelier Versace suit for the New York screening, and my anticipation soared.

The Vivienne Westwood Bridal white lace gown at the 2024 WSJ Innovators Awards felt delightfully inspired by the film, her Sydney premiere gowns leaned a little too far into costume territory.

We noticed at silhouette trend with the Bode and Thom Browne outings for the Sydney photocall and LA premiere respectively.

her iridescent Atelier Versace in Mexico City was whimsical perfection, though not everyone agreed. Much like her Louis Vuitton New York premiere dress.

The Giambattista Valli pink gown for Jimmy Fallon is my runner-up, offering a quintessential Ariana moment I had been craving. But for me, her standout was the Ralph Lauren Collection gown in London, delivering fantasy with its tulle elegance and just the right amount of whimsy.

Versace gave their Fall 2023 dress a Glinda update in pink. And by the time she closed the year in a black The Row dress at the SAG-AFTRA Foundation Screening, it was a refreshing, minimalist departure.
