There are a few reasons that the Air Jordan 9 will go down in the history books as a definitive silhouette within the illustrious Jordan line. Perhaps the most prominent is that it was the first Jordan shoe to be released during Michael Jordan’s infamous retirement from basketball to pursue a baseball career – a decision that sent shockwaves through the sporting world and left Nike with the dilemma of what to do with the Jordan lineage.Â
At the helm of Tinker Hatfield, four colourways were originally released including white and black, ‘Olive’, ‘Charcoal’ and ‘Powder Blue’. Now, the 2024 edition of the Air Jordan 9 Retro is available once more in the ‘Powder Blue’ OG colourway that debuted in 1994, in honour of the shoe’s 30th anniversary.  Â
Crisp white leather meets blue overlays on the uppers while black accents are utilised on the tongue, heel tab, and a one-pull speed lacing system, which houses thin rope laces with eyelets for ease of tightening and loosening. Labelling remains standard to the model with a Jumpman insignia and ‘AIR Jordan’ text while Air cushioning runs through the forefoot and heel as usual.Â
Outsoles feature words like independence, freedom, athletic, and force, in different languages including Japanese, Russian, German, Spanish, French, and Swahili, in homage to the nuances that go hand in hand with Michael Jordan’s ingenious play and the global nature of the basketball and the brand.Â
