The Reebok Basketball revival has officially begun as Angel Reese just debuted their first new basketball performance sneaker since 2010 for the highly anticipated matchup between the Chicago Sky and Caitlin Clark’s Indiana Fever. Dubbed the Reebok Engine A, this new on-court model reintroduces the brand’s iconic Energy Return System (ERS) while infusing key design strokes reminiscent of the Mobius series of the 1990s.
The debut of the Engine A is a pivotal moment in the newly resuscitated Reebok Basketball category. This full-on refresh should serve to attract up-and-coming basketball athletes as the brand looks to expand its roster under the guidance of Shaquille O’neal and Allen Iverson who serve as the brand’s President and Vice President, respectively.
The Engine A’s world premiere also arrives mere days after the @ReebokBasketball Instagram account opened to the public.
The Engine A is the result of a multi-year design process that began with the Reebok Advanced Concepts team in 2022. the result features a lightweight and supportive exoskeleton upper that allows for bold color-blocking, joined by the molded heel counter and internal counter for stability and lockdown. As mentioned, the primary cushioning platform is ERS, which should come as no surprise for Reebok Basketball enthusiasts. It’s paired with SUPERFLOAT foam at the heel and forefoot for added comfort. Additional throwback callouts include the “sway bar” and TPU midsole accent. Beneath it is a high-abrasion rubber outsole that allows for multi-directional movement.
Angel Reese will be wearing the Reebok Engine A throughout the remainder of the 2024 season; the Engine A is not due out at retail until Spring 2025.
