Martin Valen

It’s exciting to see new names in the streetwear and sneaker space playing with classic shapes and silhouettes. One such brand that has caught our eye of late is Martin Valen. Chunky, comfortable and with a fashion-forward approach, the brand has an Axel Arigato feel to the way it plays with the contemporary.

The bi-colour high trainers and white chunky high-tops are our picks from the current collection. There’s also plenty of attire options, with the hook and loop oversized cosy hoodie a standout.

Nike X Hyperice Recovery

We’re suckers for recovery tech, be that cold water plunge pools or massage guns, so the incoming Nike collaboration with recovery experts Hyperice is very much up our street.

Comprising a high-top boot and vest, the former offers heat and dynamic air compression massage for feet, while the vest instantly heats or cools, aiding athletes in reaching their optimum body temperature.

Olympic pentathlon gold medal machine Nafe Thiam is a fan. Public availability is being teased for a later date.

Equiano Ominira Rum

The release of the limited edition Equiano Ominira (only 3,000 bottles available) feels like a moment for rum as a super premium spirit. The first Equiano legacy blend – the brand named after writer and abolitionist Olaudah Equiano – combines a rare blend of African and Caribbean rums, overseen by award-winning master blender Richard Seale.

The result is one of the best rums we’ve tried in years. It’s smooth, with dark chocolate and caramel notes before the spiced finish. Anything other than over rocks is a disservice.

Samsung Premier 9 Projector

If you’re serious about your home cinema experience and looking to invest big in a TV alternative, Samsung’s next-generation laser technology projectors are something else.

The Premier 9 and 7 short-throw projectors combine stunning 4k resolution, immersive audio and advanced connectivity and features. Central to the projector’s appeal is the instant setup (simply plug in and connect to a network), providing a sleek, minimalist unit that has the potential to totally transform a room.

USA and Canada get first dibs, but a UK launch is expected later in the year.

Wolfs

There are films to challenge, and there are films to ease yourself into, like the familiarity of a hot, relaxing bath. Oh look, there’s Brad Pitt and George Clooney, the people’s silver foxes.

Wolfs follows both in action comedy style, as they realise they’ve both been hired as fixers to cover up a high-profile crime. Now, the two must work together to get the job done.

A two-man Ocean’s Eleven? Mr. and Mr. Smith? Call it what you want, but what’s for certain is that it has the feel of a film that could solve a midweek streaming doom scroll with one click when it hits Apple TV+ later this month.

Joshua v Dubois, Wembley

In case you’ve missed it, boxing is good again. The right fights are being made, the arenas are selling out, and the next generation of breakout stars are starting to appear. On September 21, Anthony Joshua faces Daniel Dubois for the IBF World Heavyweight Championship, topping one of the year’s best cards.

The popular narrative suggests a Joshua win could set up the much-desired Tyson Fury fight, but Dubois will be no walkover. The Saudi-backed Riyadh Season nights are also partial to an exciting undercard with Buatsi, Sheeraz and knockout favourite Chamberlain all set to fight.

King & Tuckfield AW24

It was an appreciation for the work and curatorial expertise of model Richard Biedul that originally led us to the first King & Tuckfield collection in 2016.

The brand’s ability to translate the stylish vignettes associated with founder Stacy’s grandparents – formed by memories and family photo albums – into wearable collections is what sets the clothes apart. All whimsical, nostalgic style but with contemporary touches.

AW24 is giving plenty of that with added dynamic oversized tucks, draped pleats and inverted stripes.

Hyde Hotel, London

Hotelier Ennismore is making its UK hotel debut with the £34 million transformation of a Grade II-listed building a stone’s throw from St Paul’s. Hyde Hotel will feature 111 luxury rooms, a ground-floor modern Turkish restaurant and Black Lacquer, an underground cocktail bar offering ‘clean serves’ and Tokyo small plates.

Subtly central, the boutique hotel will offer welcome competition to the central London hotel scene with the stylish refit of a classic space.

Drake’s Autumn Transitional Lookbook

Few things in life hit like a Drake’s lookbook. Even better is a transitional lookbook – no jumping straight into the new season, instead a gradual easing.

Described as “summer into… not quite summer and eventually autumn”, it’s a masterclass in layering for when the sun begins to hide behind the clouds and evenings sat outside nursing a pint become chillier.

Headliners include the signature Games tailoring, soft-shouldered tweed and a full collection of Scottish wool cardigans.

BOSS AW24

For AW24, BOSS has played the ultimate cheat code: putting David Beckham in a suit. A surefire way to pique our interest. Further investigation reveals Nigerian musician Burna Boy and South Korean actor Lee Jong-Suk are also involved in a campaign that leads with the season’s trend of power tailoring, trench coats and big shoulders.

Trousers are still steering clear of slim, cut in regular fit and there’s an excellent boxy double-breasted suit jacket in there to complete the look.
