The Business of Fashion BoF 500 Class of 2024 event, held at the Shangri-La Hotel in Paris during Fashion Week served up celebrities in a variety of eclectic looks—from dramatic capes to haute couture. Here’s a roundup of the most notable ensembles from the event.
Dramatic Cape Moment
Shay Mitchell made an unforgettable entrance, draped in a Willy Chavarri Spring 2024 red cape that felt like a nod to the late king of capes, André Leon Talley. The cape was juxtaposed with pinstripe shorts, a shirt, and a tie—blurring the lines between dramatic flair and business-inspired chic. The contrast in styles gave her an unexpected and edgy look that made a bold statement on the red carpet.
Fell flat
It’s been a while since Ashley Graham delivered a red carpet look that wowed me, and unfortunately, her Karoline Vitto Spring 2025 outfit was no exception. The look itself had potential with its interesting silhouette, but the styling fell flat. In particular, her hair seemed to detract from the overall ensemble—lacking the polish needed to make the look cohesive and memorable.
Coco Rocha’s Avant-Garde Vision
Coco Rocha brought high drama in a Weinsanto Fall 2024 sculpted dress with a matching Claudie Linchet headpiece that imbued the theatrics of a cabaret performance. She embodied the look of a beautiful, broken doll, which only Coco could convincingly pull off. Her innate ability to bring drama and artistry to her red carpet appearances elevated what might have been a challenging look into an unforgettable moment.
Gucci Elegance
Davika Hoorne graced the event in an ombre green pleated Gucci Resort 2025 gown. The pleats flowed gracefully, and the ombre colour effect added depth and movement to the gown. The look recalled Elle Fanning’s cream version from Cannes earlier this year, but it feels fresh in this hue. Accessorising with Gucci’s Bamboo 1947 mini top handle bag was predictable, but it works.
Dove Cameron’s Departure from Goth
It appears Dove Cameron may be moving away from her flirtation with goth style. She donned a bold red Richard Quinn Spring 2025 gown accented with a contrasting black bow. Even her makeup was noticeably softer and more neutral compared to her previous darker looks. The transformation made me wonder: is the neo-goth trend starting to fade? Regardless, Dove’s red gown was a powerful statement piece, albeit without her usual dark edge.
Giambattista Valli Repetition
When Isabela Merced wore this Giambattista Valli Fall 2024 Haute Couture hooded gown to the ‘Alien: Romulus’ LA premiere last month, it was breathtaking. Marina Ruy Barbosa took on the same gown for the BoF event, but did the magic strike twice? While Marina looked undeniably stunning, the large earrings she paired with the gown were a distraction. With a piece as commanding as this hooded couture gown, less is definitely more when it comes to accessories.
State of Undress
Normani opted for a Dilara Findikoglu Fall 2023 corseted look that gave the impression of a deliberate state of undress. The distressed style had an undone quality, which is a Findikoglu signature, but here I found myself more intrigued by the artistic metal necklace and cuff than the dress itself. While Normani exuded confidence, she missed the mark for a more cohesive look with the white pumps.
Victoria Beckham’s Consistent Trouser Dilemma
Victoria Beckham’s ongoing challenge with trousers continues. She seems to favour an overly long fit, perhaps intending to appear effortlessly chic. However, it often veers into looking sloppy instead. This event was no different—the trousers seemed ill-fitting, and while Victoria certainly has a knack for style, this look would have benefited from a more refined execution.
It was only a matter of time
Considering Yseult is styled by Jonathan Huguet, who also styles the ever-stylish Isabelle Huppert, it was only a matter of time before she was dressed in Balenciaga. But the Pre-Fall 2024 puff coat with an oversized bow did nothing for her. It lacked the boldness and glamour that Yseult usually embodies. She is infinitely more fabulous than this coat suggested, and this look simply failed to do her justice.
