Variety’s 2024 Power of Young Hollywood event was held at Santa Monica Proper Hotel on Thursday in California with plenty of PYTs in attendance.
Joey King: Quirky and Creative Statement
Joey King turned heads with her unconventional top from Moschino’s Resort 2025 collection, which was made entirely of exaggerated silver metal paper clips. Following in the footsteps of Cate Blanchett, who recently wore a top made from spoons, Joey’s look pushed the boundaries of fashion creativity. Her daring choice encourages us all to start looking at everyday household items in a new light—who knows what statement pieces we might create? Joey’s quirky style was a perfect fit for the playful Moschino design, making her one of the standout stars of the night, especially considering her styling.
Sabrina Carpenter: A Glamorous Nod to Old Hollywood
Sabrina Carpenter stole the spotlight in a stunning Miu Miu gown that paid homage to old Hollywood glamour. The yellow dress, adorned with intricate crystal embellishments, showcased the signature style of the Miu Miu. Chopard jewels completed her look.
Addison Rae: A Missed Opportunity
Addison Rae made a bold choice with her outfit, opting for a Jean Paul Gaultier x Lotta Volkova creation featuring a conical bra cup top. The Jean Paul Gaultier x Lotta Volkova collection blended couture-inspired corsetry with the stylist edgy, alt-punk aesthetic. Unfortunately, Addison’s bubbly and mainstream persona didn’t quite mesh with the outfit’s rebellious vibe. The look needed someone with a more fitting attitude to truly bring out its potential, and better styling.
Freya Allan: Denim Delight
Freya Allan brought a fresh and fun twist to the event with her Dior ensemble, featuring a denim jacket and skirt adorned with the ‘Miss Dior’ motif. The outfit was youthful and stylish, perfectly capturing the spirit of young Hollywood. However, the J’Adior slingback black pumps were a misstep. The classic pumps didn’t quite complement the playful nature of the denim outfit.  A different pair of shoes, even simple white pumps and sandals, would have elevated the entire look.
Laufey: Lace with a Free-Spirited Twist
Icelandic singer and musician Laufey chose a delicate Chanel lace ensemble for the evening, which, while seemingly safe for someone with her free-spirited style, still managed to reflect her unique aesthetic. The lace look was ethereal and elegant, aligning with Laufey’s usual understated yet expressive fashion sense. However, the Chanel boots she paired with the outfit didn’t quite hit the mark, detracting from the overall harmony of the look. Despite this, Laufey managed to stay true to her individual style, even when embracing a classic brand like Chanel.
Sadie Sink: Underwhelming Choice
Sadie Sink, known for her daring and vibrant style, opted for a Chanel dress that unfortunately failed to impress, and felt truly uninspiring for someone with Sadie’s star and style power, especially at an event celebrating young Hollywood. The dress’ lack of flair felt out of place on a night where creativity and boldness were celebrated by the other attendees.
Skai Jackson: Girlish Charm
Skai Jackson brought a touch of whimsy to the event in a SHUSHU/TONG dress, known for their signature girlish designs. The strapless dress, complete with a flared skirt and tulle underskirt, perfectly captured Skai’s youthful energy and vibrant personality. The outfit’s all-out girliness made it a fun and fitting choice for the occasion, allowing Skai to shine in a look that was both playful and stylish. Her ensemble was a delightful reminder of the joy and excitement that comes with young Hollywood fashion.
