The third annual Clooney Foundation for Justice’s ‘The Albies’ event in New York City was a stunning showcase of high fashion, thanks in part to Versace, one of the evening’s principal sponsors. Naturally, many of the night’s best-dressed women were seen in custom Versace creations, each bringing their own flair to the iconic brand’s designs. From bold statements to soft, ethereal touches, Versace ruled the red carpet with a mix of sensuality, power, and timeless elegance.
A Return to High Glamour
Doja Cat, who has been known recently for leaning into a more avant-garde, FKA Twigs-inspired aesthetic, reminded everyone of her high-glam roots at ‘The Albies’. She was a vision in a nude Atelier Versace deep v-neck strapless gown dripping in gold and silver crystal detailing, accented with Versace’s signature Medusa plate. The gown’s sheer skirt added a sensual lightness that contrasted the more structured, densely embellished bodice, amplifying the overall drama of the look. While we’ve seen edgier sides of Doja lately, this ensemble was a refreshing return to classic red carpet glamour, showcasing her versatility.
Doja sparkled in stunning drop earrings and a striking yellow diamond ring, all beautifully complemented by an eye-catching yellow diamond necklace from Jacob & Co.’s high jewelry collection.
A Return To Colour
Gabrielle Union stepped away from her recent penchant for black ensembles and stunned in a mint green Atelier Versace one-shoulder gown. The electrifying liquid sheen of the dress, paired with faux cut-outs created a typically high-glam Versace look. The vibrant colour was a beautiful reminder of how she commands attention in any hue. This gown encapsulated everything we love about Gabrielle—regal, daring, and utterly captivating – especially in Versace.
Stuart Weitzman Nudistcurve Hollywood in silver specchio leather completed her look, along with Tiffany T T1 necklaces, a Tiffany Victoria® bracelet and Jean Schlumberger by Tiffany, Tiffany Forever and Paloma Picasso® rings.
Dapper Dwayne
Former NBA star Dwayne Wade, the face of Versace’s eyewear and underwear collections, opted for a sleek Versace suit, with the standout piece being his navy blazer. The jacquard fabric added a layer of luxury, but it was the Versace safety pin, accented with crystals, that truly elevated the ensemble.
The bold accessory nodded to the brand’s iconic aesthetic, while the tailored fit of the suit showcased Dwayne’s impeccable fashion sense. Standing alongside his wife, Dwayne exemplified modern elegance.
Shimmering in Pink
Ariana DeBose turned heads in a pink Versace gown that took inspiration from the label’s archives. Bold shimmering accents gave the dress a nostalgic yet modern edge, though I’m not completely sold on the construction of the bust.
Still, the overall effect was glamorous and eye-catching, with Ariana exuding confidence in every frame. While the finer details might be up for debate, it’s hard to deny this was a win for Ariana.
Subtle Sophistication
Shailene Woodley opted for a custom beige jersey draped gown from Versace, a softer version of the dramatic draped looks we’ve seen from the brand’s Fall 2024 collection following Camille Razat leather version earlier this month.
The intricate draping was beautifully maintained despite the lighter fabric, creating a stunning silhouette.
However, this was a moment where I couldn’t help but wish Shailene had returned to her brunette roots. Nonetheless, her look was a lesson in understated elegance.
Young Activist, Bold Style
19-year-old activist Marley Dias proved she could hold her own among the Hollywood heavyweights, wearing a charming black Versace bow-embellished dress. She completed her look with a butterfly-embellished Medusa leather bag, adding a playful yet chic touch. Marley embodied youthful sophistication, standing out in her own right on such a high-profile red carpet.
Power Dressing Redefined
Michelle Obama brought her signature authority and grace to the event in a custom Versace suit. The sleek design featured Versace’s iconic safety pins accenting the satin lapels, adding just enough edge to the polished look. As always, Michelle proved that power dressing can be fashionable, fierce, and deeply sophisticated.
Dreamy Drapery
Donatella Versace served up the softest, most ethereal version of her Fall 2024 collection yet with a breathtaking lemon chiffon corset Atelier Versace gown. The delicate fabric flowed effortlessly, while the structured corset added just the right amount of definition. The gown’s airy, light-as-a-feather vibe was a dreamy departure from the more dramatic, bold looks we often associate with Versace. It was the perfect blend of elegance and softness, proving that Donatella can masterfully balance strength and grace in her designs.
This look was a standout moment of the night, highlighting the versatility and timeless allure of Versace couture.
From ethereal gowns to bold power suits, Versace’s influence on the night was undeniable. Each woman brought her unique energy to the red carpet, reminding us why Versace continues to be a red carpet favourite.
