Altuzarra was MUCH revered back when I used to cover fashion week — from say 2006-2014 — and it’s still a pleasure to eyeball, even as it’s stepped out of the classic NYFW calendar. Designer Joseph Altuzarra just recently took a new gig designing for Victoria’s Secret (clothing, not lingerie), which is random but god bless him for getting that VS money! Better him than some of the people on the board at Victoria’s Secret!
As I noted at Drinks With Broads when Zac Posen took that job at the Gap, I think a lot of these designers are living a lifestyle beyond what their actual income can support, but they’re in a pickle because they kinda need to live the high life to reinforce the luxe aura of the collections they’re trying to sell to rich ladies. Ergo, they end up taking side gigs that come with a guaranteed paycheck even if said side gig feels a bit rando. It probably makes financial sense. ANYWAY here’s the stuff he’s doing for his own line. Honestly, I think it’s lovely.
