Cynthia Erivo Wore Erdem To The ‘Wicked’ White City House Screening

On Monday, I committed the ultimate inbox sin—I ignored SoHo House’s weekly “Happenings at our London Houses” email. Little did I know, buried in that message was an invite to the Wicked screening and a Q&A featuring none other than Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande at White City House. Cue immense FOMO.

It would have been an honor to see the woman of the moment, Cynthia Erivo, who is on the brink of achieving EGOT status. With a Tony, Emmy, and Grammy already under her belt for her stunning performance as Celie in the Broadway revival of The Color Purple, her Oscar nomination this morning for Best Actress in Wicked is the final piece of the puzzle. If she wins, she’ll join the illustrious ranks of Helen Hayes, Rita Moreno, Audrey Hepburn, Whoopi Goldberg, Jennifer Hudson, and Viola Davis.

For the evening, Cynthia wore London-based label, Erdem, from their Spring 2025 collection. Inspired by The Well of Loneliness by Radclyffe Hall, this collection danced between masculine and feminine elements, creating a sartorial tug-of-war that was both elegant and evocative.

Cynthia’s look encapsulated this perfectly, with a masculine-inspired coat softened by a dramatic taffeta bow and hemline, plus crystal embroidery that brought a touch of old-Hollywood glam. It’s a masterclass in juxtaposition—a coat that whispers “power suit” but shouts “red carpet drama.”

On the runway, the coat was paired with wide-leg trousers, but I couldn’t tell if Cynthia stuck with that styling choice since the coat practically grazed the floor on her petite frame. If I was her, I would have worn it as a coat dress.
