Elle Fanning’s Menswear Moment In London

Two weeks ago, when Elle Fanning embraced oversized tailoring during the London photocall for ‘A Complete Unknown,’ the reception was lukewarm at best. But Elle isn’t one to shy away from a second chance.

For the film’s second London photocall at the Curzon Mayfair last night, she turned to Saint Laurent and delivered a bold statement with menswear-inspired oversized tailoring from the Spring 2025 collection.

This collection has become a favourite among celebrities, with Hailey Bieber and Zoe Saldana pairing their suits with the signature printed tie, while Eiza González skipped the tie altogether for a softer, more feminine take. Elle, however, leaned into the full runway look, tie included.

I can already hear some dismissing this ensemble, arguing that it’s too much of a departure for Elle, who is so closely associated with ultra-feminine aesthetics. But that’s exactly why I love it.

If there’s one thing this Saint Laurent collection has proven, it’s that the tailoring doesn’t dictate the beauty story. Elle’s soft retro waves added a touch of glamour to offset the suit’s masculine edge. It was a perfect balance—classic Elle, but with a daring twist.

You know how fond I am of Elle. I loved her Bottega Veneta moment earlier on this tour, but this? This is next level.

There was a time when Elle was criticised for playing it too safe. This press tour has shown anything but. From ’60s retro to masculine chic, Elle is giving us the range we crave. Isn’t this exactly what we want from a press tour?

I’ll take this over a string of floral and tennis dresses any day. Elle is always evolving, and I’m here for it.
