Ellen Pompeo was one of many stars who attended the US Open this past weekend, heading to Flushing on Sept. 1 in a preppy-yet-relaxed ensemble befitting of the tennis tournament. Arriving alongside husband Chris Ivery and joining Shonda Rhimes in the stands, the “Grey’s Anatomy” star paired a Sergio Tacchini polo with clean white loafers.
Rhimes held somewhat of a reunion with former and current stars of her hit shows “Greys” and “Scandal.” Along with Pompeo, Bellamy Young, Scott Foley, Tony after Frances Tiafoe of the United States defeats Alexei Popyrin of Australia during their Men’s Singles Fourth Round match on Day Seven.
Pompeo wore a pair of white pants with a navy blue polo from the brand Sergio Tacchini, established by the former Italian tennis player of the same name. Specifically, her shirt was the Women’s Spring Orazio Polo, which features the company’s logo in one corner and white trim along the collar.
Coordinating with her top, she exuded an easygoing but sophisticated vibe in her bright white pants, which featured a crisp crease down the front. Continuing to color coordinate, the actress accessorized with a navy blue purse.
Keeping with the color scheme of her clothes, Pompeo slipped on a pair of white leather loafers with a golden horsebit on the vamp. In the traditional loafer silhouette, the shoe is enclosed in the back and the upper covers about half of the top of the foot. Pompeo’s loafers feature a very short block heel and a thin sole overall. The loafer style falls under the elevated preppy aesthetic associated with tennis fashion.
Pompeo appeared to be wearing Gucci shoes, a brand well known for its loafer styles. Gucci’s women’s loafer with horsebit is available in both black and white; it features a 0.4 inch heel and is designed with a back that can be folded inward so the shoe can be worn as a slipper. The Italian shoe retails for $990.
The classic loafer style is suitable for a number of occasions and is often sported by fashion-forward celebrities. Katie Holmes styled a black pair with blue jeans while out in New York City earlier this year; Paul Mescal wore a men’s loafer to a Gucci show in June, styling the shoe with white socks, striped shorts and a light blue button-down.
Meanwhile, when Pompeo isn’t wearing Gucci, she steps out in a myriad of styles like Christian Louboutin pumps. In an advertisement for Season 19 “Grey’s Anatomy,” she wore pumps from Stella McCartney.
