Set to celebrate its 100th-year anniversary in 2025, Silvia Venturini Fendi set out to create a new crest inspired by the squirrel emblem her grandmother used for packaging and Fendi’s first store.
Along with the squirrel, the Italian luxury brand’s accessories and men’s artistic director was inspired to add other house icons from throughout the years like the Pequin stripe, the FF logo, and Janus the Roman god of beginnings and endings to create her new crest – which served as a preppy centerpiece, proudly emblazoned like a fantasy coat-of-arms on breast pockets and buttons.
Indeed, the collection did have a preppy undertone, exploring the notion of uniforms for work and play and deconstructing them in a playful color palette of sherbet, ivory, caramel, buttermilk, soft blues, natural indigo, black and forest green.
Fendi also incorporated the Selleria stitch throughout the collection, a technique passed to the Fendi family by Roman master saddlers in 1925. Scaled up and down, it is re-interpreted as a broken pinstripe suiting jacquard and threaded as a stripe or tonal FF logo through linen and plush textures, applied as a surface on Japanese boro denim, or reduced to a minimalist frame on crisp wool outerwear and leather goods.
When it comes to this season’s footwear range, a new slip-on flat takes centerstage. The style, which is made in patent leather or a wax thread-embroidered method, was featured on the majority of the collection’s 57 looks on Saturday in a large range of colors.
There was also a new loafer this season. Described in the show notes as a molded lug-sole loafer, the silhouette is reminiscent of similar sneaker-loafer hybrids seen in recent runways. It was showcased in a black colorway and a white colorway.
This season’s newest sneaker also made an appearance. Called the Fendi Force sneaker, the shoe is characterized by whipstitch details that adorn contrasting panels on the upper.
Plus, the season’s Selleria motif makes another appearance in the collection’s bags. From the Peekaboo ISeeU Soft bag and supple diagonal shoppers, to the new zippered Baguette Double crossbody bag, and a patchwork Baguette crafted from multi-colored offcuts from the Fendi ateliers.
