FKA twigs effortlessly blended avant-garde aesthetics with a personal style that defies convention as she promoted her new film, ‘The Crow’, in New York City on Wednesday, where she delivered three standout looks that not only showcased her fearless approach to fashion but also pushed the boundaries of what a press tour wardrobe can be with each look was a testament to her unique style, seamlessly merging futuristic elements with her signature edge.
Sci-Fi Elegance in Jade Cropper
FKA twigs kicked off her day with a look that felt straight out of a dystopian future. Her two-piece grey ensemble from Jade Cropper’s Fall 2024 collection was a masterclass in sci-fi chic, elevated further by the Numa sunglasses from A Better Feeling. This outfit made it clear that FKA twigs is not just a participant in fashion but a disruptor.
The Thom Solo ankle boots added another layer of intrigue. While devoid of the platforms or spike heels one might expect, the unique curved heel offered a subtle nod to the futuristic theme. This look was more than just an outfit—it was a statement of intent, signalling that FKA twigs is here to challenge the status quo, not conform to it.
Shades of Brown with a Twist
As she stepped into ABC News headquarters for her guest appearance on ‘Good Morning America’, FKA twigs turned to the colour of the year—brown—with a chestnut Celine Fall 2024 leather jacket and mini skirt, paired with caramel Windowsen metal Dragon thigh-high boots. While the leather ensemble could have leaned toward the conventional, it was the boots that took this look into classic FKA twigs territory.
The exaggerated silhouette of the boots added a futuristic flair that’s become synonymous with FKA twigs’ style. It’s clear that even when opting for a more subdued colour palette, she’s not interested in playing it safe. This look was a reminder that FKA twigs will always find a way to infuse her outfits with that signature touch of otherworldly allure, ensuring that even the most seemingly traditional pieces have an edge.
Han Kjøbenhavn’s Desert Dystopia
Exiting the ABC studios, FKA twigs delivered what was arguably the most striking look of the day—a head-to-toe Han Kjøbenhavn ensemble that combined elements of the desert and the dystopian future. The grey top and skirt is giving Dunes of the Desert collection, paired with a sci-fi-inspired visor and pillow-like Han Kjøbenhavn boots, made for an unforgettable outfit.
This look was a perfect encapsulation of how FKA twigs sees fashion: as a playground for creativity, where the boundaries between reality and fantasy are blurred. The visor and oversized boots could easily have been seen as excessive on anyone else, but on FKA twigs, they felt like a natural extension of her persona.
My first thought upon seeing this look was, “This is how everyone else thinks they look when they’re wearing labels like Han Kjøbenhavn and Rick Owens.” She makes the avant-garde look effortless, which is no small feat.
In a world where press tour wardrobes often lean toward the safe and predictable, FKA twigs is a breath of fresh air. Her three looks in New York City weren’t just about promoting a film—they were about pushing the boundaries of fashion and reminding us all that true style is about taking risks and embracing the unconventional. Whether she’s channelling a sci-fi heroine, playing with classic colour palettes, or stepping into a dystopian fantasy, FKA twigs is always one step ahead, and the fashion world is all the better for it.
