We have MUCH content at Drinks With Broads this week. I recapped the most recent chunk of Emily in Paris (I hate Gabriel). Heather recapped the most recent episode of Only Murders in the Building (my favorite episode of the season to date)! We brought a new edition of Enter Through the Gift Shop, this time at the Atomic Museum in Vegas, and looked at several fresh fall TV shows. We watched the (bad) new Ellen DeGeneres special and checked up on some of America’s biggest scammers!
We also had a fun chat about what everyone is currently reading.
I’m sure you saw that Dame Maggie Smith has died. 89 years is a good run, and yet! I felt a terrible pang when I read the news. As my friend Grant said, he will never hear the word “weekend” without thinking of her. She had a tremendous and beautifully varied career — she is, for example, great in A Room With a View — and then found entirely new audiences with both the Harry Potter films (in which she is absolutely perfectly cast), and, of course Downton Abbey, in which she is simply sublime. State legislatures play a crucial role in our democracy and can drive meaningful change, and the election is in less than six weeks (!!). (And I think it’s might be a squeaker, so consider this your reminder call your doc to make sure you’ve got some Xanax in the house if that’s how you roll.) Following the guidance of the folks at The States Project, we’ve decided to raise our donation goal to $20,000 just to keep the momentum going, but there’s absolutely no pressure; anything we raise from here on out is just the icing on the cake. On that topic: Make sure your voter registration is up to date and make sure you’ve made a plan to vote. (I’m doing mail-in this year and dropping my ballot off in the drop-box at my local park. I find it very satisfying to get the text that my vote has been counted.)
