Ghostbusters PUMA Suede XL Release Date


Believe it or not, it’s been 40 years since Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, and Egon Spengler started their ghost hunting business in New York City. A result of Dan Aykroyd’s fascination with the paranormal, Ghostbusters has aged just as well as its producers and cast could have asked, with the movie’s heroes and foes still immediately recognizable four decades later. To commemorate the landmark anniversary, Ghostbusters and PUMA are linking up for a collaborative capsule. For our purposes, the highlight is two Suede XL colorways inspired by franchise villains; the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man and Slimer.

Kicking things off with the lumbering giant, Stay-Puft and the Suede XL are a match made in heaven. Given the shoe’s puffed-up tongue, chunky laces, and overall wide construction, the Ghostbusters antagonist couldn’t possible be paired with a more fitting silhouette. Eyes are first drawn to the lateral quarter, where a banner inspired by Stay-Puft’s red hat just out from the eyelets. A blue Formstrip bulges out just underneath, while the heel features a bulbous Marshmallow-inspired structure in lieu of branding. Moreover, PUMA brings a Stay-Puft graphic to a semi- translucent outsole.

Pivoting to Slimer, the roamer of the mythical Sedgewick Hotel, his pair fittingly comes with an all-green suede upper, balancing two different shades across the base and Formstrips. The outsole features a large hot dog graphic, meant to reflect Slimer’s recurring run-ins with the street food staple throughout the franchise. Notably, in the 2016 re-boot, Slimer attacks a hot dog stand. Naturally, both pairs also come with co-branded Ghostbusters x PUMA logos on the tongue and insoles.

The Ghostbusters x PUMA collection, including two graphic tees, will release online via PUMA on October 1st before landing at the brand’s NYC flagship and select retailers on October 3rd.
