In the modern day, House of the Dragon’s medieval aesthetic is a hard one to pull off (outside of a convention, that is.) As we near the conclusion of the latest season, Merrell is aiming to remedy that issue, bringing the three major houses that center the Game of Thrones spinoff to their foremost trail runner offerings.
Unsurprisingly, the protagonist House Targaryen is the first on tap. It’s a more abstract interpretation of the family’s colors, reflecting trademark blond hair rather than the black & red sigil that defines both the HoD setting and the later GoT timeframe. Next up the Moab Speed 2, clad heel to toe in Hightower green. The midsole of the hiking silhouette sports a uniting touch across this whole collection, a marbled pattern that nods to Westeros’ heavy lore and the antiquity appeal it’s always captured audiences with.
Finally, Merrell’s foremost low-cut hiking boot, the Moab 3, is the choice to represent House Velaryon. While the red & black palette that graces this shoe is pretty disconnected from House Velaryon’s crest, it certainly aligns well with the “Fire & Blood” tagline and its on-screen representations. Each shoe arrives with its House’s crest stamped on the insole, and a metallic lace lock/dubrae that sits midway through the lace unit. Finally, each arrives in co-branded packaging, bearing a dragon egg graphic and the show’s name in signature Westerosi typeface.
The Merrell House of The Dragon collection will release on a staggered basis; the “Targaryen” Agility Peak 5 drops August 17th ($170), the “Hightower” Moab Speed 2 ($170) on August 25th and the “Velaryon” Moab 3 on September 7th ($140).
