The clearest indication that MTV was serious about reclaiming attention at this year’s EMAs was the appearance of Jodie Turner-Smith on the red carpet at Manchester’s Co-op Live on Sunday evening.
Jodie turned heads in a breathtaking blue velvet Robert Wun Spring 2024 Couture creation, reminding us why we missed her presence on the red carpet.
If this look gives you déjà vu, you’re not alone. The draped design has become the current signature of Robert Wun. For a while, it was all about his voluminous ruffles, but now, the designer has embraced a refined draped detail, showcased previously on celebrities like Cardi B at the 2023 Vanity Fair Oscar Party, Sheila Atim at The Olivier Awards the same year. Da’Vine Joy Randolph at the 2024 BAFTAs, and most recently, Chloe Bailey at the 2024 Glamour Women of The Year Awards.
What makes Jodie’s gown stand out from the rest is the impeccable styling. From the slanted hat to the gloves that echo the gown’s draped detail—complete with sculpted nails built into the fingertips—Jodie truly took us on a fashion journey. The way she carried this look demonstrated an artistry that goes beyond merely wearing a gown. Jodie gave this blue velvet masterpiece a personality and theatricality that only she could deliver.
The attention to detail from head to toe reminded us why she remains one of the most exciting style stars to grace the red carpet.
