We don’t know what Joe Alwyn’s Google Calendar looks like, but judging from all the places that he’s been over the past few months, we can assume that it’s pretty damn stacked.
After pulling up to Wimbledon in Ralph Lauren and the Venice Film Festival in Gucci, the Kinds of Kindness actor made an appearance at London Fashion Week this week. He’s steadily become one of Hollywood’s new menswear guys, so his cameo here wasn’t really that shocking. But what was kinda surprising were the mad jeans that he showed up in.
Very appropriately named the “Twisted Workwear” denim, this trippy denim was designed by the characteristically imaginative JW Anderson. Crafted in Italy, the pair’s inner seams—which, on a standard pair, usually run flush down the center—completely wrapped around the front of both legs. The back pocket was also stitched onto the front, and the leather brand patch made its way to the waistband. And there was a carpenter loop, the kind you’d usually find on a pair of cargos or work pants that is typically used to hold heavy tools like a drill or a hammer—or, in this case, probably a wine glass.
As a dresser, Alwyn tends to prefer the classics. From Bottega travel bags to New Balance sneakers, he likes pieces that are just a little old school. A traditionalist! So when the actor stepped out of the box with these jeans, we were pleasantly surprised. Could this be an experimental new era for him? Are we about to experience a Joe Alwyn that we’ve never seen before?
Only time will tell. Sure, his tasseled loafers are pretty classic-menswear—but maybe, just maybe, a new, wilder dawn is upon us.
