Before we get going, I should point out that the knee socks are not my only beef here; I also think those lilac shoes are a weird choice. The dress itself is very delicate, practically a nightie, though the cape saves it on that front — but then you get down to the shoes, and they’re not any kind of complementary color. They’re just there, like a purpley-pink thud, and the knee socks do not help. Indeed, on that topic, the knee socks don’t do ANYTHING for me. I know I’m an old crank and it’s very on-brand to complain about whatever trend the kids are pushing, but honestly, to me knee socks will always be the province of underage students, so they quickly infantilize an outfit — think Sexy Schoolgirl and its creepy kin. I’m not sure I can get past that. Am I nuts?
