Los Angeles Fires

Red Carpet Fashion Awards has always been about escapism, with a focus on fashion as a joyful celebration, rarely venturing beyond our sartorial bubble except during pivotal moments like the pandemic and the writers’ strike.

However, this morning, as I watched Lawrence O’Donnell’s report on MSNBC about the devastating fires sweeping across Los Angeles, I feel compelled to address this heart-wrenching situation.

January marks the beginning of awards season, a time when we spotlight the achievements of celebrities and stylists through a fashion lens. Learning that Leighton Meester and Adam Brody have lost their home—like so many others—mere days after celebrating at the Golden Globes is a sobering reminder of the fragility of our joy amid tragedy.

It feels frivolous to discuss fashion at a time like this, much like during the pandemic. Yet, I’ll continue to provide the escapism so many of you come here for—whether you’re here for the imagery or indulging in my critiques of hemlines.

The fires are a harsh reminder of how quickly life can change. Entire communities are grappling with loss and displacement, and we are deeply saddened for everyone affected.

For those impacted by the fires, below is vital information about shelter locations and resources.

If you are told to evacuate, PLEASE LEAVE immediately. Do not wait.
