While Miles Morales fans patiently await the release of Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, which is still TBD after being postponed indefinitely during the Hollywood writers strike, Marvel and Puma are launching a three-pair footwear capsule to keep the franchise within sneaker and cinema consciousness. Moveover, there’s another collaborator at play here; cue The Boondocks theme.
Dedicated followers of the Miles Morales story have surely seen comparisons to Boondocks characters on social media by now; the “good” version of Morales, aka Spider Man, has been compared to Huey, while his evil alter ego has drawn comparisons to Riley, the more mischievous of the two siblings. As such, Boondocks-inspired cartoon graphics appear on the insoles of all three pairs, although they don’t necessarily speak to that same comparison.
The delivery includes a Puma Suede taken after Spider-Man and two Puma RS-X colorways; one centered around The Black Panther and another for Blade, the MCU’s antihero vampire hunter. The Black Panther pair comes complete with carbon fiber overlays and blue hits throughout, along with a re-worked Formstrip inspired by vibranium energy daggers. Blade’s pair, meanwhile, comes with red accents and metallic silver heel counter, which rests just above a red-splattered midsole.
The significance behind the three characters chosen isn’t made evidently apparent, at least to casual Marvel fans, but there’s a chance they could tie-in somehow in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. But that’s conjecture, and only time will tell what the franchise’s next movie has in store.
All three pairs are set to release via Puma and select retailers on June 22nd, with the Puma Suede marked at $90 and the RS-X colorways set at $120. Enjoy detailed images of the trio below and turn to our “Where To Buy” sections for shopping links upon the drop.
