Melissa McCarthy and her husband Ben Falcone have a fiction podcast called Hildy the Barback and the Lake of Fire, for which she also got participation from their daughters, Octavia Spencer, Glenn Close, Allison Janney, and Joel McHale. Here is what she said about it to THR:
“When Ben pitched me Hildy the Barback and the Lake of Fire, he said, ‘It’s a medieval comedy where you battle dragons and an evil sorcerer while still running the family tavern, and deals with issues like sexually narcissistic centaurs.’ I said, ‘That will look amazing!’ And he said, ‘No, it’s a podcast/radio play, so you’ll only hear it. Also, each episode will have an original song, so it will be a tremendous amount of work and we’ll be lucky to break even.’ I looked at my hubby and said, ‘That sounds batshit crazy. I’m in!’”
I have no idea if this is a kid-friendly joint or what, but I suspect… not entirely? Although they showed up at GMA in full garb, which looks kind of like Spamalot meets a PG rave. This would make a great birthday party, but as a podcast? I guess we’ll see.
