Michelle Yeoh added just the right bit of glam on Friday as she accepted her Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Biden. The actress wore a pair of Roger Vivier pumps to the ceremony at the White House in Washington D.C.
The global star is no stranger to Vivier: in addition to attending the brand’s presentations, she’s been spotted in heels from the company multiple times.
Yeoh was one of 19 recipients at the ceremony. The Presidential Medal of Freedom is the highest civilian honor in the U.S., awarded to those who have made contributions to the prosperity, values, or security of the United States, world peace, or other significant societal, public or private endeavors according to the White House. Other names included Mayor Michael Bloomberg, James E. Clyburn and Opal Lee. Yeoh’s comes after she became the first asian to win the Academy Award for Best Actress.
About the shoe
The “Everything, Everywhere All at Once” performer slid into a pointed-toe stiletto pump with embellishments for extra oomph. Dubbed the Roger Vivier Bouquet Strass Buckle Pump, the shoe features a glitter fabric. On the tapered toe, it sports a large crystalized buckle that is inspired by elements of antique jewelry. The crystals are designed to appear like a bouquet or garden of flowers.
The shoe also includes a mirrored heel of just lover three inches. It is also available in a kitten heel style.
Roger Vivier: Creating the Stiletto Pump
Vivier is credited with creating the stiletto pump in 1954. Since, the company has also made buckles, often covered in crystals, a signature of the brand. The company currently operates under the creative direction of Gherardo Felloni. He joined the brand in 2018.
The Beatles, Gloria Guinness, Ava Gardner, and Queen Elizabeth II have been clients of Vivier. Notably, the Queen honored Vivier by donning his design for her coronation in 1953, an extraordinary moment for the designer.
