Mikey Madison goes vintage for the BIFAs

With awards season underway, we are bound to see a lot more of Mikey Madison on the red carpet. She attended the 2024 British Independent Film Awards at The Roundhouse on Sunday in London, and while I loved the idea behind this vintage Dior by John Galliano black lace gown, it ultimately missed the mark.

The dress had all the hallmarks of being another incredible archive pull—classic, timeless, and full of that effortless charm we expect from John Galliano’s Dior designs. The black lace was intricate, delicate, and beautiful. However, the issue came down to the lining. The tan lining felt too warm against Mikey’s porcelain skin tone, creating a stark contrast that became even more noticeable due to its sharp asymmetrical cut.

The asymmetry was bold and dramatic, but instead of enhancing the dress, it brought attention to the pairing of the lining and her skin tone.

The silhouette, the lace, and the design had everything going for it—the framework was all there. But the execution fell a bit short.
