Millie Bobby Brown channels Pamela Anderson’s iconic updo

When I saw Millie Bobby Brown on the red carpet for the LA premiere of her new Netflix film, The Electric State, my first reaction wasn’t admiration or intrigue—it was confusion. My immediate instinct was to Google what the movie was actually about, because surely, surely, this was another case of method dressing.

The result? “American science fiction adventure comedy drama film.”

So, no connection to the grand, cathedral-inspired gown she wore. Which leaves me utterly baffled as to why this Annie’s Ibiza creation was chosen for this moment.

Now, don’t get me wrong—the gown itself is stunning. Inspired by the striped marble façades of the Duomo di Firenze, it’s a masterful piece of craftsmanship. The meticulous embellishments mimic the rhythmic interplay of light and shadow seen in the cathedral’s intricate patterns. The structured corset sculpts the body with an almost armour-like strength. If I were reviewing the gown in isolation, I’d be raving.

But here’s the problem—it’s so underutilised here.

The whole aesthetic is too mature for Millie, and the addition of the caplet just intensifies that feeling. Pair that with the hairstyle, and suddenly, this already grand gown is teetering on the edge of looking like it belongs to someone ten or twenty years older.

Everything about this look screams “grown,” which isn’t necessarily surprising—Millie’s style has consistently skewed mature for her age since, well, forever. But this takes it to another level, almost to the point where she doesn’t even look like herself.

I don’t get it. At all.

Having watched Millie’s interview with Extra, she said that Pamela Anderson and the ‘90s were references for the press tour. I see the Pamela reference with the hair, but the dress? No. If she was going for bombshell ‘90s energy, this just doesn’t translate.

Millie is young, vibrant, and starring in a sci-fi adventure movie. Where’s the fun? The playfulness? The energy? If she wanted to go dramatic, there were so many ways to achieve that while still looking fresh and youthful.
