Amid a stateside takeover highlighted by the New Balance 550 and New Balance 9060, the Boston Brand’s Made in England product continues to be a global favorite. The latest entry to that canon, the New Balance 991v2, embraces muted tonality with some national accents bubbling under the surface.
A pair of New Balance wearing grey as proudly as this one does shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone at this point. Regardless of how often it’s employed, that neutral shading succeeds again here. The featured blend of mineral hues adds depth to the suede & mesh upper, continuing a faux-vintage midsole and gum traction underfoot. Saving the overall design from monotone territory, the tongue tag and midsole ABSRB pods pop in navy & red, a tacit acknowledgement of this shoe’s geographic ties. With “Made In” series pairs always placing material quality first and foremost, the price tag premium is well warranted knowing you’re getting what you pay for.
