At long last, one of the colorways that helped Sean McDowell’s design become a global fan favorite will be available once again. Tipped off by insiders all the way back in 2023, the Air Max Plus “Hyper Blue” is finally paying off its reported retro, revealed in the SNKRS showcase for a Spring 2025 launch.
While the Nike Air Max Plus completed its turn from cult classic to generally available model many years ago, 2024 has seen a marked increase in the number of colorways introduced to the public. Several of them have spun off the DNA of original looks, so while the “Hyper Blue” returning unchanged will certainly satisfy original fans of the model, it seems fair to say that off-shoot editions (see the “Racer Blue” do-up or lending the palette to the Air Max Dn) have blunted at least the shock factor from this announcement.
However, this pair succeeds by not messing with a winning formula. The 1998 do-up remains intact more than a quarter decade later, a slight oceanic gradient interrupted by jet black trim and a sunny yellow Swoosh at the quarter. Despite where the model has gone elsewhere in Beaverton, it’s still incredibly hard to argue with that timeless layout. As with most the product previewed during the latest SNKRS showcase, the pair is expected to hit shelves for Spring 2025.
