Nike Air Pegasus 2K5 “Ashen Slate” HQ5725-400

The Nike Pegasus 2K5 has had an interesting run since re-emerging on shelves in the early goings of this year. While it seemed with initial colorways that the shoe was set to take on the Y2K trend in full force, more and more recent editions are trending away from that style, putting forth a more conservative executions. The shoe is hitting that same vein with the “Ashen Slate” dominant outfit set to debut on July 14th.

Dusky “Ashen Slate” cools the 2000s runner down, entirely forgoing the metallic tones so dominant on the street in 2024. The slightest bit of earthy complements peek out in the margins, with raw leather accents visible via the scattered unsewn edges of each overlay. In broad strokes, the Pegasus 2K5 continues to succeed with “daily driver” design language, but the finer details is what sets it apart from the pack; the slitted quarter panel that extends into claw-like marks on the midsole and the contrast between flat & matte leather some of the touches that excel in this look.

While a company as massive as Nike is prone to have many favored Pantones going at one time, it seems “Ashen Slate” is creeping into the spotlight with some of their recent offerings; the Nike Book 1 “Mirage v2,” Air Max Plus Drift “Dusk” and GT Cut 3 “Ashen Slate” have all centered around the pale blue tonality in recent memory.
