“Timeless style” is a description that gets attached to countless sneakers and applies to much fewer, but the Nike Blazer is a true exemplar of that idea. Adopted as streetwear for years and sneakily as a dominant training option, the Blazer has outlasted plenty of footwear trends in its nearly fifty years on the shelves, and will assuredly outlast many more in the years to come. All that to say, Nike has rightfully kept the consumer well-fed with colorway options with each passing season, and the Nike Blazer Mid ’77 “University Blue” is a sensible option as Spring approaches.
Shaggy materials are the main selling point with this edition, comprehensively draping the upper alongside the titular “University Blue” tonality. Off-white “Sail” underfoot maintains a pretty conservative script, but some eye-catching appeal sneaks in via “Safety Orange” pops on the exposed foam tongue and on the sockliner in the shoe’s interior.
While aesthetically providing some nice contrast, the “Orange Label” speaks to this pair’s inclusion in the skate-shop-only Beaverton program. A final flash of “Gum” brown on the outsole traction imbues some further skate sensibility, but essentially what you see is what you get, a shoe that’ll add some flash to your wardrobe while ensuring it can go with most every outfit you bring it to.
Look for the Nike Blazer Mid “University Blue” appearing on Nike.com and local store shelves in the coming weeks, retailing for $100 upon arrival.
