It’s not a stretch to say that Paul Rodriguez is one of the most important figures in the history of Nike SB, a fact immediately evident when tracing back his sneaker history. Though many other skaters hold signature skate models, none have come close to as prolific as the California-born athlete, stretching into the double digits throughout his time under the Swoosh. To celebrate 20 years under the banner, the Nike SB P-Rod 1 will return to shelves in 2025, now coming into clear view with the most detailed images to date.
If you’re making an A-B comparison, many of the original details from the 2005 pair (and subsequent 2015 re-release) are immediately evident, from the quilted heel guard to the notched midsole design. For those still planning on getting performance use out of the shoe, the original tech package appears intact, with the P-Rod 1 maintaining the shank plate and visible Zoom air inset into the heel. A final touch that’ll satisfy skate culture devotees from the era can be found with the “SHS” lace dubrae, a hold-over from the era but clad in a platinum shade that alludes to the model’s 20th anniversary.
Though the Nike SB P-Rod 1 was given a shining spotlight in the SNKRS spotlight towards the end of 2024, one of many ways Nike signals special energy around returning silhouettes, it’s unclear whether more colorways will come down the line. For now, you can expect this OG “Black/White” colorway of the Nike SB P-Rod 1 to land in the near future, scheduled for the Spring/Summer ’25 season.
