As the Fall 2024 season of Haute Couture Paris Fashion Week draws to a close, Peter Copping is announced as Lanvin creative director. The historic 135-year-old French fashion house founded by Jeanne Lanvin in 1889 ultimately ends it year-long search for a creative leader upon the appointment. Copping began his career at Sonia Rykiel, spent over a decade at Louis Vuitton under Marc Jacobs before becoming creative director of Nina Ricci and later, Oscar de la Renta. Since 2021, Copping has served as the head of couture at Balenciaga. “I am extremely honored to have been chosen as Artistic Director of Lanvin and to be able, along with the atelier and teams, to write the next chapter for this iconic house,” said Copping via the official statement.

Copping is set to start in September, with the Pre-Fall 2025 collection set to be his first.

“This choice makes sense. His Nina Ricci could have been Lanvin. But hope he can propose modern glamour as well.” [tourbillions]

“A fantastic pairing in theory, but I will wait until the first full collection to see. Not that I don’t think he could pull it off, we’ve just been burnt too many times in recent years by designer appointments.” [Cocteau Stone]

“Now we’re talking, Lanvin. OK, you have the talent, it’s time for the suits to do their job and back up his vision. With an eye-catching bag and strong collection, Lanvin will be back in the conversation in no time. I can’t wait to see his offering for menswear, it’s a new territory for him to explore his aesthetic.” [THD96]

“Finally someone that’s promising. I have hopes for Lanvin again and i wish they could do wonders.” [Matthewthew]
