‘Emilia Pérez’ actress Selena Gomez attended the 2024 Governors Awards on Sunday in Los Angeles, wearing a custom Ralph Lauren Collection embellished velvet evening gown. And while the dress itself is beautiful, I can’t shake the feeling that it feels a little too mature for her.
The gown, with its embellished velvet fabric and Karl Lagerfeld-inspired collar and cuffs, aims for quirkiness, but instead, it feels a little… Kris Jenner. The moment I saw this dress, my mind went straight to Kris and her signature style—the black dress with white collar and cuffs that she’s practically trademarked. Did Kris Jenner pop into your mind the second you saw this dress? Because she sure did for me.
It’s not that the look is bad. In fact, the craftsmanship and detailing are exquisite. But something about it doesn’t feel true to Selena’s usual aesthetic.
The styling was undoubtedly on point. Her Boucheron jewels, particularly the Plume de Paon large pendant earrings, added an elegant touch of sparkle, elevating the look.
Selena Gomez is no stranger to experimenting, but this particular look leaves me hoping for something fresher and more in sync with her youthful energy next time.
