For the 2025 Pirelli Calendar VIP Gala at London’s Natural History Museum, ‘Bridgerton’ star Simone Ashley embraced a look that had every intention of celebrating her standout feature – her incredible legs. Dressed in an oversized blazer and short shorts from The Attico’s Fall 2024 collection, the aim was clear: let the legs do the talking. And with her mile-long legs, this direction felt spot on. However, execution is everything, and here’s where the outfit missed the mark.
The oversized blazer’s proportions, unfortunately, took away from what should’ve been a clean, powerful look. Instead of skimming her frame with a chic, relaxed ease, the blazer sits too high as the actress has a shorter torso for this design to work. It’s a design that wanted to balance between statement and sultry, but instead, it ended up fighting itself. Positioned higher than intended at the waist, caused an unintended knock-on effect: the top half now looks overly bulky.
It’s hard to ignore the details of how this oversized look backfired. The lapels push away from her body, and the shoulders have too much slouch, creating an awkward, almost boxy effect that steals from the intended silhouette. The idea was strong, the execution wasn’t quite there.
This should have worked – it really should have.
