Fall weather is especially exciting to me because we get to add another layer this time of year for extra warmth. The cold days are still a bit far from us as we are just now entering the new season, but it’s never too early to get a cute jacket! The coats this season look pretty different from last year, which is interesting because the trends seem to be newer this fall season. Living in the fashion capital of the country, we see a lot of trends come and go, and I think it’s better to go for the trends that are going to last awhile. We tend to get wet weather in the fall here, and with light rain comes colder weather. A lightweight coat is perfect to bring out instead of a full winter coat and bonus points if you have a waterproof jacket! We don’t have a ton of closet space, so I try to be pickier about the jackets I bring into the house because they take up a lot of room, particularly a fleece jacket or those with puffy and warmer pockets. These are the best lightweight jackets as we say goodbye to warmer weather.
Sherpa/Teddy
Firstly, this is an outer layer that does its job! I like to transition these into the winter season, as well because they are a great option for cold weather. Anything extra cozy is a win in my book! This statement jacket has been a trend for some time now but it seems like styles and silhouettes have changed so it’s a versatile piece that’s ever evolving for chilly days.
Quilted
Secondly, I have been obsessed with the rise of quilted jackets. They are seriously some of the best jackets around and for a reasonable price. They don’t  usually have water resistance, but they protect from the wind chill and colder temperatures. You can wear a thin layer under them and be okay using it as your fall coat because of their thickness. They’re also great jackets to dress up or down! I have a hard time choosing a fun addition to some looks and I find that these are a great idea to throw on to make a look even more fun. They’re no North Face, but they are one of the warmest jacket options for these particular seasons.
Pop of Color
Furthermore, I know neutrals for a new fall jacket are great to have in the closet because they go with everything. While I admire their versatility for outdoor activities, I think it’s fun to have a pop of color for outerwear, especially because falls can quickly experience bad weather. It’s a great way to brighten up your mood and outfit! A pink color for an outer shell is ideal for me. Of course, I found the best options with a bright color for street style outfit inspiration. Trench Coats
A trench coat is one of the most on trend jackets you can sport this season! I’ve been seeing cropped versions rise as a top choice but you can’t go wrong with any length. Some of them are even coated to protect you against weather conditions so they make for great lightweight rain jackets. I’ve seen options all around at places like Amazon, Shopbop, Nordstrom and so on and various prices. If you’re on a budget, the Amazon option is my favorite!
Blazer
Finally, blazers are incredibly on trend for a more modern look to everyday basics. The Frankie Shop is known for their oversized blazers, which are stunning, but I do like a more fitted blazer for meetings! It’s a chic coat that will never go out of style because it’s constantly coming back. These are classic coats that are always great vintage finds. My daughters have been borrowing mine already!
