Nike. Stash. A two-decade hiatus. Collectors this is the one for you.
Josh Franklin aka Stash
Emerging in the ‘80s when graffiti was becoming a significant cultural movement in Brooklyn, Josh Franklin aka Stash was part of the first wave of graffiti artists who painted their way from the subway trains to the galleries, helping to legitimise graffiti as a form of contemporary art. Over the years Stash has become an influential figure in both street art and design realms. The first to put his mark on a Nike silhouette, back in 2006, Stash teamed up with the Beaverton brand on a collaborative Air Max 95, which launched as a part of the ‘Artist Series’. An instant sell-out to no surprise.
Nike x Stash Air Max 95 ‘Obsidian’ & ‘Harbor Blue’
Now, the bit you’ve been waiting for. Celebrating over 20 years of their collaborative partnership with Nike, and returning for the first time in the NYC-based artist’s signature blue scale palette, is the highly anticipated Air Max 95. 2024’s edition features some noteworthy alterations. Compared to the suede execution in 2006, here, a mix of leather and textile gradient panels join on the upper.
The pair are characterised by exposed webbing on the lacing chamber rather than the usual concealed eyelets and Air Max graphics are swapped out for Stash’s arrow motif and signature on the tongues. There’s more. The tongues are zipped and contain hook-and-loop patches for a personal touch while the speckle Air cushioned midsole mimics spray-paint artwork. Wrapping up, fat cap motifs repeat across the footbeds and the pair come with a special edition custom graffiti printed box.
