God help anyone who was nominated for both an NAACP Award and an Independent Spirit, because they happened on the same night — and sandwiched between the SAGs and the non-televised NAACP categories, a huge party in and of itself (and which we’ll cover in the next post). Woe betide anyone who was invited to or nominated for both. I really feel like we could spread some of these around, right? I can see wanting the Oscars to be the last event of the season, but I also think a lot of these events get short shrift when they’re crammed in to try and make that a reality.
The good news is, the guest list turned out strong — Colman Domingo chose the Indie Spirits, but nature abhors a vacuum, so lots of stars filled in the space.
